If you're new to kettlebell training, this is perhaps one of the first exercises you should bring into your bag of tricks, as it does have such broad application. Let's take a look at how not only kettlebell swings are performed, but the workout advantages they give you over other methods of total body conditioning. more »

Knee Position While Doing Kettlebell Cleans and Snatches

Posted on 1/8/2007 at 6:25AM in Kettlebell Techniques.

I'm somewhat confused about the proper position and/or movement for my knees when doing kettlebell Cleans and Snatches. I've been to YouTube.com and watched various Kettlebell clips but I just can't seem to find a definitive answer to proper knee positioning. more »

How to stop kettlebell from hitting forearm so hard?

Posted on 8/2/2005 at 7:46AM in Kettlebell Techniques.

I just got my 36 pound kettlebell today. I have to say the exercises were harder than I thought! The only problem I have is that when the darn thing swings around and whacks my forearm, it really kills. I try to keep my wrist straight, but in the later reps sometimes, it gets pushed back just a bit. Any suggestions? more »

Kettlebell Snatches and Shoulder Health

Posted on 6/26/2005 at 7:53AM in Kettlebell Techniques.

Today I was trying out the one arm snatches at the gym for the first time (with a dumbbell). A personal trainer walked over and asked me what I was doing. I explained and she proceeded to warn me that I could mess up my shoulder by swinging the weight back between my knees like that.. more »

Alternative kettlebell snatch technique?

Posted on 6/15/2005 at 5:54AM in Kettlebell Techniques.

Since it was raining today and I usually do my snatches outside , I had to do them inside with a pretty low ceiling. I'm using Ironmind kettlebell handles and if I do the "flick" at the top like Pavel does on the videos, I'll hit the ceiling. Using real kettlebells like on the video would not have this problem because of their shorter length. more »

Where is the Kettlebell Supposed to Hit the Forearm?

Posted on 5/30/2005 at 7:56AM in Kettlebell Techniques.

My 16 kg kettlebell hits right below the heads of the ulna and radius, right on a hard, sinewy patch before the muscle takes over from the tendon. It sort of hurts for it to hit there with a straight wrist. Do you get used to this? Do the heavier kettlebells hit any lower? more »

The Role of Grip in Kettlebell Lifting

Posted on 5/23/2005 at 7:58AM in Kettlebell Techniques.

Should you squeeze the kettlebell handle as tightly as you'd squeeze a bar when lifting PTP style? I was really banging up my forearms with the cleans and snatches, but when I started crushing the handle as hard as I could, my form improved and the KB started dropping against the forearm much more gently. more »

Kettlebell Overhead Squat Question

Posted on 2/28/2005 at 8:07AM in Kettlebell Techniques.

I'm having difficulty with the two kettlebell overhead squat. I can do overhead squats all day long with a loaded barbell using a snatch grip (wide) or a jerk grip (little finger 1" inside the rings). The technique trick there is to rotate the inside crooks of the elbow forward with the barbell held somewhat behind the head and "stretch the bar". more »
